Eligible applicants must hold a master's degree in nursing or a related field and hold a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the United States. If the applicant's baccalaureate degree is not in nursing, then the master's degree must be in nursing. The GRE is not required; however all applicants are required to have taken and passed a graduate level statistics course. Students whose first language is not English are required to take the TOEFL exam if they do not already have a United States baccalaureate or master's degree.

The post-master's Doctor of Nursing Practice program is designed for mid-career nurses who wish to become innovative health care leaders through building on their previous education and experience, and gaining knowledge and practical leadership here at YSN and in the field. The DNP program is an systems and healthcare organizations specialty-focused program. Combining the Yale residential experience with online coursework, the Yale DNP is tailored for nurses who already have major professional experience and work commitments. Through collaboration with our faculty, health care leaders, and policy advocates, our DNP graduates will create new nursing roles to contribute to better health for all people.
