The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) is a comprehensive institution with career-focused undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and certificate programs. Located on a beautiful residential 90-acre campus three miles from downtown Hartford, the University is enhanced by the Catholic intellectual tradition and the values of its founding Sisters of Mercy. USJ Nursing programs are all full accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(CCNE). The four year undergraduate Bachelor of Science in nursing program provides women an opportunity to grow personally and professionally and develop their leadership potential. For men and women with a BS or BA in a non-nursing major, the Accelerated Second Degree in Nursing offers students an opportunity to become a registered nurse in 15 months of continuous study. The graduate program is co-ed for those nurses who wish to advance their careers by obtaining a Masters degree as a Nurse Practitioner in primary care (FNP) or psychiatric mental health (PMHNP) or an advanced degree in nursing education. The department also offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) that prepares nurses for advancement and leadership roles in managing the clinical care of patients, improving health care systems and/or providing clinical education. The degree completion program is designed for men and women who are registered nurses who wish to complete a BS through conveniently scheduled classes in an on campus or online track.
